Why should I use mineral make-up? How is it better than traditional make-up?

Minerals are not new and began as alternative to existing foundations. In recent years the demand for such cosmetics has been driven by the increase in consumer knowledge and demand toward natural products that use as little artificial ingredients as possible.

There are numerous benefits to using mineral makeup as opposed to traditional makeup. This is not to say that traditional makeup doesn't have its benefits too. The major difference is the absence of filters such as talc, chemical dyes, binders and chemical preservatives, in addition to its health benefits for the skin.

The appeal toward traditional makeup in the beginning is perhaps the noticeable difference achieved when covering up imperfections on the skin.

While these products provide coverage, it can prevent the skin from breathing and prolong or worsen any redness, dryness and blemishes, which in turn create the need to wear more. However natural mineral makeup can give similar or even better coverage. In fact depending on the look you want using mineral makeup is buildable. Many consumers claim that mineral makeup results in a more natural flawless looking skin, just like a second skin.

Additional advantages include that it doesn't encourage bacterial growth due to its make hence there isn't the same risk of contamination, with a bonus of an increased shelf life compared to non-mineral based make-up.

If we take the impact of climate such as heat and rain and perhaps the possibility of a few tears we all know traditional makeup tends to either melt or rub off or leave a lovely imprint of the memory we want shed away. Mineral makeup is highly resistant to these unforseen conditions that we may experience throughout our life time.

Unlike traditional make-up the issue of it sinking into fine lines and wrinkles and disappearing as time goes by, mineral makeup results in the opposite.

The way mineral makeup interacts with light and bounces of the skin creates a soft focus effect and can reduce the appearance of ageing.

Is mineral make-up better for my skin?

Research has suggested that mineral makeup is better for your skin.  It is what mineral makeup lacks that make them fantastic for the skin. No artificial colour, oils, perfumes (number one cause of irritation or allergies) preservatives to clog pores and irritate the skin.

The unique combination of mica, zinc oxide, iron oxides and titanium dioxide has anti-inflammatory properties which are great for those with problematic skin such as acne, eczema, rosacea, or those sensitive to sunlight following invasive procedures like chemical peels.  This kind if makeup has a calming effect on the skin.

As the mineral makeup has the combination of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide both ingredients are found in sunscreen, these ingredients can offer you protection from the sun and from the effects of aging.

One of the best reasons to wear mineral makeup is that it is non-comedongenic , meaning it doesn't clog pores allowing the skin to breath, however the best cosmetic you can wear is a healthy skin.
